Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses ultraviolet (UV) light at sufficiently short wavelength to kill microorganisms. It is used in a variety of applications, such as food, air, water and surface purification. UVGI utilises short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) that is harmful to microorganisms. It is effective in destroying the nucleic acids in these organisms so that their DNA is disrupted by the UV radiation, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions.
Sun Fresh have chosen to use the commercial grade MH18220 device to deliver the UVC to the surface of the mattress. This unit is not a toy as most hand held units basically are. Not all UV lamps are the same. Only lamps of particular specifications will be effective in destroying all bacteria and spores. Our lamp is certified by an Australian test laboratory to destroy 100% of surface bacteria and spores.
